Speech Language Pathology
What is Speech Language Pathology?
Pediatric speech-language pathologists (SLPs) help children develop the skills they need to communicate effectively, whether through speech, gestures, sign language, or alternative communication systems. At Bright Little Minds, we support a wide range of speech needs, including:
-
Speech sounds & clarity (articulation, phonology)
-
Language development (understanding and using words, sentences, and conversation)
-
Social communication (interacting with peers, play skills, nonverbal cues)
-
Feeding & swallowing in collaboration with occupational therapists (oral motor skills, picky eating, safe swallowing)
Our Approach: Play-Based, Neurodiversity-Affirming & Child-Led
We believe communication grows best in joyful, meaningful contexts. Our therapists are trained in:
💡Play-Based Therapy – Children learn best through play! We follow their interests to build engagement, motivation, and real-world communication skills.
💡Neurodiversity-Affirming Care – We celebrate each child’s unique brain and communication style, whether they’re verbal, nonverbal, or use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). Our goal is to support their autonomy, self-expression, and confidence—not to "fix" who they are.
💡Gestalt Language Processing (GLP) – Some children learn language in "chunks" (scripts, echolalia, or repeated phrases) before breaking them down into original sentences. We honor this natural development path and help them grow into flexible, self-generated communication.
Every child’s journey is unique. Whether your child is a late talker, autistic, has a speech sound disorder, or communicates in non-traditional ways, we meet them where they are—with warmth, expertise, and a focus on their strengths.
